The underside of this Gum Bumelia reminds me of its other name, Woolly Bumelia. The Lactura sp. caterpillar blends right in here. Seen at LBJ Wildflower Center, a Lacturid.

This is a Lactura species caterpillar, one of a large group seen on this Coma, Gum Bumelia or Woolly Bumelia, tree today, mostly marching toward the ground to find a place to pupate. A pic of the tree and its "moth-eaten" appearance is posted in the Miscellaneous file. (Gives a whole new meaning to "moth-eaten," doesn't it?)
